Caregivers: Getting Dressed Made Easier

Over the past year or so, I noticed Mom struggling with getting dressed. Mom no longer has upper body strength, and it is difficult for her to pull garments over her head. The buttons and buttonholes on her blouses are too small and it takes her a long time to button up. I was not sure if there were options for seniors with similar issues. As I do with most things, I went online and searched “clothing for seniors,” “helping seniors with getting dressed,” and stumbled upon something called, “adaptive clothing.”

Adaptive clothing helps make dressing more manageable for people with mobility issues. I was hesitant at first regarding the cost and whether the clothes would be less fashionable, given Mom still cares about her appearance. There are options for nearly everything, including shoes!

After reading more and exploring various brands, I decided it is worth a try. The key is going to be getting Mom to sit with me while we explore options online.
