Caregiving: Mom Thrives in Assisted Living

It has been months since I posted. I have been ruminating upon in what direction I take my blog now that I am no longer mom’s primary caregiver.

Assisted living has been good for my mom. She adjusted quickly. She made friends easily, participates in activities such as bingo, playing cards, and goes on bus tours to see interesting things happening around town. She even attends exercise class regularly. Most importantly, mom has the care she needs, when she needs it.

New research shows that staying social has social and mental benefits and I will attest that my mom has benefited from new relationships and participating in various social activities. It gave her a sense of self and self-confidence. She even put on weight and is no longer looking frail. She even has a new hairdo!

I was hesitant about assisted living. My siblings and I did extensive research to find a good and affordable place for mom. After seeing her flourish, I regret not doing this sooner or right from the start.
